Problems with Visual Basic in Vista

If you are coding in Visual Basic in Windows Vista then you are in for big trouble. Apart from those thousands of bizzarre error messages that you get in Vista you might face lot of other problems. For example the other day I got this "Could not contact the Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator". After googling (new term for searching the net :)) for some time I came to know that the "Distributed Transaction Coordinator" service should be running. So had to start that service (Run prompt ->type services.msc ->find the service with same name). Although this has got nothing to do with Windows Vista as such but now the problem that it gave was "permission denied error". This is where I ran the VB.exe executable as administrator (Find VB.exe in program files right click on it and select "Run as administrator") and opened the project. Now the project opened without any problems. Actually every time you run Visual Basic its better to run as administrator.

Update: If any references/components are missing, restart your vb as admin.

Brain Drain

Finally a post after long time. I wanted to share something about the the intelligence level in India in general. Well I don't want to say that I am intelligent over others or something like that, it is just a general observation. In India in various fields, I feel intelligence level has gone down considerably and we are not getting intelligent things around. For example take politics, there are some very intelligent leaders at the moment but say 5-10 years down the line I dont see anybody who can take their place..sigh!. Same is with our sports why are we loosing each and every game in cricket, hockey etc? Our media is also okish apart from Global News Broadcast and its allied channels I dont see anything exciting in Media. Over the weekend I thought of watching atleast something for timepass but was disappointed to see same old movies and the great indian laughter challenge was aired both the days :-( which was very boring. To some extent I consider this to be linked to money somehow. In all this areas there is no fixed income that people might possibly get hence people might opt for something that is fixed and we are sure we will get the money. For example IT :-).
